Physics Project Reflection #3

Physics Project Reflection #3

I feel very pleased with our groups progress on the roller coaster. We have finished most of the hard parts and we have made it look nice by spray painting the buildings black and tying string to the pipes for support so that the pipes don't lean to one side. Inertia has affected our building process a lot. It is very hard to control the marble during the turns, when the marble is going through a turn, it wants to keep going forward because of inertia, but the track turns so if the wall isn't big enough the marble just goes straight through and flies off the track. We have to make the track turn gradually, it cannot be sudden otherwise the marble would fly off the track because it wants to keep going forward. It also affected our building progress when the pipes make a bump on the track. The track is soft so the pipes penetrates into the material and makes a bump, when the marble passes through the bumps it flies, so we had to make sure there were no bumps on the track. The turns have been very frustrating because the marble would always find a way to fly off the track even though we have made the walls of the track bigger and made the turn more gradual. Our group has persevered and we listened to each other's ideas to make the roller coaster work better and to look nicer.
